This is new chapter in the It's War story, a prequel to Conker's Bad Fur Day which will tell some unknown events of the war of Squirrels and Tediz.
The story is more or less a parody of Goldfinger.
The first part is the one I like least, the upcoming ones will be (I hope) more entertaining.
We first hear about Elizabeth and her invulnerabilty power, something I'll develop in future chapters.
The Battle of the BKT 82 Bomb
PART I: Infiltration
Mushrooms Forest was always very quiet at night. All its inhabitants are deeply asleep, and rarely someone ventured there. There was no reason to do so, usually.
That's why Tediz had built a small hut in the thick vegetation of the forest, they knew that no one would disturb them. And here they plotted their sinister plans.
Von Kriplespac had hired some of his best scientists to develop a virus or a bomb that would eliminate their bitter enemies.
So it was in those laboratories, between the quiet harmless trees, that the terrible BKT82 bomb, capable to take the life of all of the squirrels within several miles. If it was blown up in the castle of the Panther King, it would kill every inhabitant of Windy except the weasels, which would take an antidote to save his own skin, and Tediz, being them machines.
But maybe that hiding was not so sure.
Winston and Elizabeth were on the battlefield that protects the laboratories of Tediz in the Mushrooms Forest
Winston Wright was only thirty-six, but he had been awarded a medal for having created some excellent aircraft, invisible to radar, which had glided on Borsovic County and had enabled them to conquer it. He was a Sky Jockey, in fact as a young man he had followed many flight schools, and knew well the planes, both in theory and in practice. He himself had led the flying machines when they attacked the Borsovic County.
Elizabeth was the attractive Dutch girlfriend of Kevin Gladstone, and she shared his special power to be almost immortal, after they met with Gregg the Grim Reaper. Once the war ended, they dreamed of getting married and having a life without running the risk of receiving the body passwed bya Storm21. On field she fared very well, however, in particular as a spy. This skill gave her a lot of confidence, and both Kevin and his superiors had repeatedly recommended her to never low her guard.
This was one of the reasons why she and Winston did not go over well. Winston was a cautious type, and she was too impulsive and stubborn to follow his advice. As soon as she discovered the need to work with Winston, she decided that she would demand another task once the mission was complete.
Despite their differences, the two men managed to make their way in the woods without getting noticed by the guards of Tediz. Winston noticed that Elizabeth was much improved in stealth.
They found some sites lookout on the branches of trees, but they managed to evade trouble.
Now they could see the entrance to the laboratories, just as the sun was setting.
"Elizabeth, I propose to stay here for the night." Winston put the backpack under the leaves of a tree.
"No!" she protested. "We are too close to their base. They might discover us."
"They won't, if we can hide well."
"Look, the mission is pretty much over. We just have to infiltrate and find out their plans."
"But this is the hard part." Winston objected calm with a bitter smile, as they sat on the ground. "And then we need to have a rest ..."
Steps. Someone was approaching.
They heard us?
A Tedi came out from behind some bushes and took a walkie-talkie to his mouth.
Elizabeth leaped and made elegantly vibrate the sword through the body of the enemy, who fell to the ground without making a noise.
"See?" she said defiantly.
"Okay," he agreed. "Come on."
All around the fortress there were automatic turrets and several guards.
"Van Damme." Winston said softly. "I suggest a diversion to get rid of the guards. But how do we manage with the towers?"
No response.
"Van Damme? Elizabeth?" he asked more insistently turning.
She was gone. She arrived with the body of the enemy she had killed.
"Why don't you wear his uniform?" she suggested throwing the Tedi on the ground. "There should be also his identity card in it."
"And what about my skin?"
"Oh, the dark the automatic turrets won't take care of that. Like you said, I have to create a diversion to remove the guards."
"Good, what are you going to do?"
But Elizabeth had already escaped. She climbed quickly a tree and reached a lookout tower. She cut the throat of one of the two guards, leaving the other in life, but removing him the weapon with a kick.
The guard, unarmed, played a horn with all the breath in his throat to call for help, and within seconds, all the guards had fallen there.
But Elizabeth had disappeared. With great agility she jumped from tree trunks and moved away.
Meanwhile, Winston was able to reach the door of the laboratories. He knocked on the door, and a voice in a German asked who he was.
Fortunately, the squirrel had studied some words in German, realizing that there could be a situation like that, so he had no trouble answering.
When the door opened, the Tedi had a moment of confusion, but when he realized that he had opened the door to an enemy it was too late.
Winston gave a resounding punch to the Tedi, and thenhe hit him in the head with the butt of his gun, until he lost consciousness.
He closed the door behind him with a thud and walked blindly through the maze of corridors and doors.
Not being able to find what he was looking for, he knocked at a door.
A voice ordered him to come in, but he refused, and asked in a lousy German where the Plans Room was.
The Tedi, suspicious, got up and opened the door, and found Winston in front of his eyes. Having no weapons to defend himself, the doctor jumped on him and tried to choke him. Winston slammed him against the wall, then threw him to the ground and pressed until its death.
He dragged the body inside to avoid traces, and began to search inside the room, glancing fleeting to the various projects on the tables. He had to rush. He took some papers from a desk and put them under the armor.
He closed the door and escaped.
The door leading outside was locked. He pushed it violently, but failed, and two enemies were were approaching. He fired and hit both, first one and then the other. He walked into a room on the right, where he found all of the commands that controlled the door. He pressed a few buttons randomly, but again, he failed.
"Zugriff verweigert! Passwort anfordern!"
"Shit." Winston took a grenade and blew it into the room. The computers blew up and the door opened while the alarm sound grew louder.
You always get everything with good manners.
Elizabeth was waiting for him just ahead, the rope ladder of a helicopter, which in the meantime she had called for help.
PART II: Captured
Days later, the squirrels attacked the Tediz base, and Winston was on the field with his companions, except Elizabeth, who had decided not to accompany him.
It was a very cold night, and Winston was shaking; infact he could not be able to hold his guns.
When he was a few feet from the base, with the explosion that destroyed his eardrums, and the red blood that disgusted sight, he stepped forward it and threw a grenade, as he was ordered from the sergeant. They had to blow it up.
The grenade did not destroy the base. Numerous hordes of Tediz emerged from the building, and the squirrels were forced to withdraw.
Winston also took a few steps back, waiting for the right moment to start running.
A blow on the head, and then he lost consciousness.
Winston woke up the next morning in a prison. A Tedi brought him a slice of bread and a glass of water as breakfast.
He knew what they were going to do to him. The brainwashing as they had done in Cody Less.
"Follow me" the Tedi ordered, pointing a gun at him.
"Do you want to make me one of yours, right?"
The Tedi smiled.
"Yes, that'd be the plan." He waited a few seconds, then said:
"However, we have improved our techniques. This afternoon will be the first session, but for now we want you to work for us."
Winston could have refused, but for the moment he knew the best thing to do was to play for them.
"What kind of work?"
"We are preparing an attack against your squirrels friends. Now we will hold a meeting to discuss the final details. You will have to write down their names, and their function. "
All this seemed ridiculous, but more information would get, the better.
All Tediz, five, sat down at a table, and so Winston, well supervised, and equipped with pen and paper. Among them there was a woman. Winston had seen some female Tediz in his life, but had treated them in the same way. They were only war machines, they didn't have feelings.
Her name was Hunty Hardcore, and her piercing eyes had the same evil of all the other bears. She covered her mouth with a veil and hands with gloves.
"So, gentlemen." the bear at the head began. "In two days, the bomb will be brought to a hut at Windy, hidden near the Bats Tower."
Everyone nodded, while Tedi turned to the fellow on the left for a second.
"Urchin, being the engineer who designed the bomb and who knows it better than anyone else, will trigger it. We do not have to fear anything, because the bomb won't hurt, being us machines.
The Tedi confabulò whispered something to Urchin, and Winston leaned over to try to understand what they were saying, but without success.
Hunty was also affected, approaching it, until the two boys turned to the others.
"Well, we've made our decision. Our friend here, Mr. ..."
There was a pause.
"Wright." said Winston. "Winston Wright."
"Mr. Wright will be the guinea pig for our bomb."
Hunty twitched, which surprised Winston more than the death sentence. Could a machine care about a person?
"When will we proceed?" she asked hoarsely.
"Immediately."
Winston was taken to a closed room. He was tied up and had to wait half an hour before it was brought to the explosive device. It was a cube as tall as he, with the corners rounded.
Urchin triggered the bomb with a timer of 10 seconds, and the countdown started.
10 ...
Winston's forehead beaded with sweat.
9 ... 8 ...
Shit, there must be a way to escape.
7 ... 6 ...
"Maybe you could make me one of you."
5 ... 4 ...
"You would be useless." Urchin smiled mockingly, adjusting his eyepatch.
3 ... 2 ... 1 ...
The bomb exploded.
