This is basically a novelization of Banjo-Tooie's first cutscene, just an introduction to the game.
Chapter 1 - Eggs First
Banjo entered into the cave. In front of him, there was a pink egg that was spinning round. Banjo touched it and the egg dissolved in the air, leaving a pink and black powder.
Banjo was in front of a door that had been sealed before then.
"Banjo, what are you waiting for?"
"Nothing, Kazooie. Nothing."
The bear entered inside and found a huge sarcophagus. He opened it and found a blue egg, similar to the other.
The duo entered Wozza's cave and found an Ice Key. They touched it and it disappeared.
"Cool ... an Ice Key." Kazooie said, "I wonder what it opens ..."
2 - Ah, Sweet Revenge
It was a dark night, and the rain fell dense on the lawns in Spiral Mountain. The lighting in the sky were noisy. Inside Banjo's house there was silence, you could only hear the ticking of the cuckoo clock. Then someone knocked on the door. The bear ran to the door, and found his friends Mumbo the shaman and Bottles the mole wet from head to toe.
"Bear excuse delay. Mumbo found traffic. Bear know, it's raining ..."
"No need to apologize, Mumbo, I understand."
"Hello, Banjo, how ya doing?" Bottles grabbed a chair and pulled from his pocket a deck of cards.
Kazooie took out her coins from the bag.
"Prepare to lose."
After about half an hour, Kazooie shouted :
"Look out! Look out there. Gruntilda is coming here to get her revenge."
Bottles stood up quickly, then took Roysten out from his bowl, and went to the window. "That rascal. I want to put her head in this bowl."
While Mumbo drew his wand, Kazooie, dishonestly pocketed the whole amount of money on the table.
Bottles sat down again, putting the fish back in the bowl.
"I can't say anything, Kazooie."
"Oops ... I think I was wrong." Kazooie tried to apologize.
Meanwhile, outside the house, Klungo, Gruntilda's sidekick, was pushing the boulder that fell over Gruntilda after their battle on the top of the lair.
"Damn, you stupid fool, staying here is not cool."
"Mistress, ssstay quiet. Klungo called witchesss' sssissstersss"
The four friends were playing, Klungo pushing the boulder and the ground began to shake.
A little farther on, there was a giant digger, inside which two women were fighting.
"It's alll your fault, Mingy. Compass you had to look at. At least we arrived."
Mingella was attacked by a cat. The witch gaved him a kick.
"This beast is too boring. You should have left him at home."
Bloobelda pulled a lever toward her, then pressed a button.
The excavator increased his speed, to destroy up five hundred square miles of mountains. In the earthquake, the bridge to cross the river broke. The wooden bridge between the manor of Gruntilda and Spiral Mountain, already falling to pieces, was struck by a violent lightning and split in two parts, both destined to crash into the walls. Inside the manor of Gruntilda were terrible collapse. Many of the doors were blocked by boulders.
The door opened and from the digger the two witches, Mingella, thin and tall, and Bloobbelda, fat and short, came out.
Bottles tried to put a card on the table but a jolt knocked mole, cards and table. Mumbo fell under a chair - which in the meantime had lost a leg - and tried to get up.
"Stop fretting." cried Bottles.
"Who is moving the table?" Banjo screamed.
"Mumbo not happy!" Mumbo said.
"I want to finish the game" made Kazooie.
Everything stopped. The shaking was over. Mumbo stood up.
"Would you like togo out to give a look, Kazooie?" asked Banjo.
"Er ..." gasped Kazooie "but ... it's dark outside and I ..."
"Are you afraid?" Banjo said ironically.
"Of course not. ... The fact is that when they are in contact with the full moon I turn into a werewolf breegull." ventured Kazooie with a giggle.
Mumbo rised his wand.
"All apologies. Mumbo brave. Mumbo solve the mystery."
Banjo arranged the table and put two or three cards above.
"Bottles, I have an ace, Did you?"
Bottles gathered up the cards from under the table. Then he noticed he had a spider on his head, and jumped as quickly as possible, making the table overturning again.
Kazooie took so optimistic, asking "Hey, Bottles, I love that move. Are you going to teach it to us?" While Banjo said: "Oh, no, not again."
Apparently, that sentence was symbolic because, what Banjo said about the card game was adapted outside, where the shaman ran towards the stone that served as the tomb of Gruntilda.
Mumbo saw the two witches with a book in hand. One of them opened it and recited a spell.
Then there was silence. The boulder began to levitate, higher and higher and then stopped.
The looks of Mumbo, Mingella, Bloobelda and Klungo were pointed toward the boulder.
Then, still in the air, began to spin and then exploded.
From the grave where the body of Gruntilda laid, a skeletal arm came out. The skin had disappeared. A fat bony figure emerged from the hole: Gruntilda was brought back to life!
"Hey there, sisters, thanks for saving me!
Am I still beautiful, as I should be?"
"No, don't you have a mirror? You are worse than your old dog Ripper." answered Mingella closing the book.
"Oh damn, no time to think about the past.
I've dreamd this moment for two years, and I'm back, at last."
Bloobelda raised her foot and slapped against the floor.
"In fact, we have to settle accounts, but later we will, dear Gruntilda, you should now follow us on our wagon."
Gruntilda opened her mouth to speak but before she did, her eye fell on the ground.
She picked it up, gave it a clean and put it back in its place.
Mumbo began to slip away, but Mingella saw him.
"Hey, look, an eavesdropper has discovered us"
Mumbo looked witches and reached into tascha.
"Oh ... err ... Mumbo did not hear anything."
Mumbo was looking for his wand, but he had left it at the Banjo's home. He ran away.
Mingella opened the book searching for a spell somewhere. Then she was about to recite a spell, when Gruntilda stopped her.
"Leave it to me, he won't tell what he has seen.
Don't bother about him, you go back to the machine."
Gruntilda created a purple fireball. The witch threw it to Mumbo. He could not do anything. There was no escape. The end was certain!
Mumbo began to pray and the ball of fire was approaching. His eyes reflected the scene. The shaman could feel the heat of the spell. Then, something made him fall to the ground making him dodge the spell. Banjo and Kazooie.
"Did you miss us, you old fool?" squeaked Kazooie.
The three began to run, while Gruntilda was chasing them casting spells like if she was crazy, one after the other, all those that came to her mind.
Banjo hid in a hole. Mumbo instead rushed into the house of the bear looking for his wand. The wizard jumped under the table, tilting, and grabbed his wand. "Mole come out. Witch is coming." Bottles looked at Mumbo and said:
"Look, Mumbo, fool me once, but not two. I won't move from here."
Exhausted, the shaman left the house and went to Banjo. Mumbo pointed his wand at the fireball of the witch and spoke a spell. Mumbo above, Banjo and Kazooie formed a barrier that made them invulnerable from spell.
Out of the old castle, Gruntilda was heading to the drill.
Mingella looked at her sternly. "Why are you so late? Was it necessary to pay a visit to your old lair?"
"Dear Mingy, I have to apologize,
but I had to kick Banjo and his allies!" Gruntilda said.
They closed the great door, leving Klungo outside.
"Mistress, wait. You forgot me!"
The gate was closed. Klungo had to walk back.
Then something pushed him to the ground. Banjo's house exploded.
3 - My Destroyed Country
Banjo woke up and got up from the mud in which he had slept. He took the backpack and decided to go to take a shower. He turned and saw his old home. The blue paint given was all scratched. The windows were shattered. The door was falling apart. Above the roof, there was a huge hole.
Banjo ran to see inside and found a body completely burned. The bear took the mole, now defunct and brought it out. That same morning, Banjo, Kazooie and Mumbo had witnessed the burial of poor Bottles, died from the hands of the witch Gruntilda Winkybonium.
"Well, let's face it." Kazooie said "he was not my favourite character."
Banjo stopped crying, blew his nose and looked toward the sky. He had to take revenge. He had to do something. And then he was sure that the witches had combined great damage.
While Mumbo came home, Banjo and Kazooie were contemplating what once used to be a happy valley to keep critters and now it was a land that followed the Apocalypse populated with monsters of the Hell. Near the house, Banjo and Kazooie found a fish tail sticking from a rock. Banjo pulled it out and saw that it was his friend Roysten, the goldfish. "Banjo, help me, I need water ..."
Banjo ran to the lake and threw the dying fish in the dirty water. Then he mounted the great Spiral Mountain and he and Kazooie flied to the old Gruntilda's lair, as the old bridge had collapsed.
Inside the castle there was a lot of dust, and the pieces fell off the ceiling. The old canvas depicting the hag had been destroyed. While coughing, Banjo heard a voice. He turned and found his friend Cheato, the book of spells. Kazooie noted aloud that the cover was ruined and someone scratched several pages.
"Banjo. Kazooie. Gruntilda is back, and, as she had promised two years ago, she ripped my sheets and took them away. You have to stop her and recover my pages.".
Kazooie nodded
"We will try, my friend." Banjo consoled him.
Outside of the lair, Gruntilda's drill had made a huge hole in the mountain, creating a tunnel. Banjo and Kazooie followed the path left from the drill and entered.
And so, their adventure started...
